Kyushu, Sakurajima

Sakurajima is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. Infact, about 3 weeks before I went there, it erupted and I was wondering if I can even visit it.

We took a ferry from Kagoshima to Sakurajima. You can also drive your car there.

We decided to rent the bicycle as the guide book says it can be done in 4 hours. Seems simple enough eh.
Climbing the dried magma

There is a monument put up for a famous Japanese musician which held his concert over there. Rock band!!!

We visited the SABO Center which teaches people about how they prevent the volcano etc. (hur hur hur - only Singaporeans will understand why I found this funny)

The Boys day was round the corner so they have these fishes hanging around.

Lunch time, 2 hours plus has passed and we were only 1/4 way through.

Usually before a shrine there is a huge gate like structure, the picture below shows the top of it, the rest is buried.

The long river is where the magma will flow out.
The island shape changes pretty often I guess.

Giant radish is famous here.

Some of the destructed houses.

These barriers prevent the stones from rolling down.

A famous poet.

You can see the smoke coming out at the left tip.

We conquered the island on the bicycle in 6.5 hours.
