Ueno Sakura 2009
The sakura in Ueno is in full bloom (満開), which means time to go sakura viewing. This is a very serious thing, it is a national hobby and there are accurate reports on when they sakura will be full bloom. The news will report on the situation and they will even have research of it.
This is the station at about 10am.
The crowd was not as bad as I thought it will be, but there was still a lot of people.
I think they played majong overnight.
Hangover from a night of Hanami
These blue mats are an eyesore, but it seems 99% of them uses them for their Hanami. They even had areas reserved for them. People come really early to get spaces and they friends follow with the food, and most important is the alcohol.
Even the otakus take a leave from Akihabara and come view the sakura. But not without their toys.
Usually they have such food stands area selling food too.

Ueno Shop and Unagi Meal
I always thought Ueno was a place with a famous park and zoo. But I was wrong in all aspects. Near the park there was a huge area filled with shops. Tons of shopping and food at really good prices.
This looked pretty good eh, cracked an egg into something like an Okonomiyaki. Tasted really good too.
I don't usually like mayo, but the Jap version really rocks.
Look at the awesome straberries. I found the most expensive ones so far. Cost about $60 for 12. And they were huge.
I really wanted to try the real Unagi and found a few people recommending Izuei Honten at Ueno. It has 260 years experience in making Unagi.
(Sorry for the underexposed pictures, but somehow the camera went bonkers). The photo does not really show how good it looks. But sad to say, I think I am too used to Unagi slapped with ton of teriyaki sauce. This good in the sense that you can taste the charcol, the skin is done to perfection, the rice was flavourful. But I always thought the sweetsauce was good. So apparently we are eating crappy stuff which is good to the palettes.
This this is just werid. Tororo, which was a thick, cold broth with grated yam in a dashi base. Apparently you are supposed to mix it with the rice and eat it.

Ueno Park
Ueno Park is well know to be a place where there are very nice Sakura. But right now it is the peak of Autumn, so there are none. Here are tons of photos of the park. I enjoyed walked around and just lapping all the sights up.
There are many facilities over there, baseball pitch, Zoo, museum. But just walking around the park too long enough.
We managed to walk past a place filled with little stores selling food.

I seen these little stands in dramas before and has been meaning to eat at one. But just so happen that day I was pretty fully. Too bad.
