Kyushu, Kumamoto

We arrived at Kumamoto in the evening and headed out for dinner. Of course we want to eat what is famous in Kumamoto which is Horse meat. The menu below shows that you can eat horse sashimi, horse inards, various methods of cooking the horse meat. Basically most part of the horse can be eaten in many ways.

Stir fry horse meat in a pan.

Horse sashimi and the white meat is actually the scalp of the horse (also raw).

After dinner, we had more drinks over at my room which lasted till really late.

The next day we headed for Kumamoto castle.

I thought the thing above is a torture machine, but it is actually a lamp which they use to light the huge well below.

Lunch was some local dishes which was pretty good.

We then drove up towards Mt. Aso which is an active volcano. A very scenic drive, though I saw more cows then horses. I wonder why? (Probably cause everyone eats horse meat?)

Halfway up the weather turned bad. It was very foggy as you can see here.

We wanted to take the tram across Mt. Aso to see the crater lake but the weather cause poor visibility. Thus we decided to do some neoprints. I have not touched one for ages and boy has it improved leaps and bounds. You can add pictures, write stuff on a multi touch screen.
Pretty good yogurt which is supposed to be famous.
